The World’s Biggest, best and barmiest feminist book club.

Welcome to JKR’s Barmy Book Army

We don’t burn books. We think books light up the world. And we know you do, too. We are gender-critical women who read, think, talk, and support each other.

We read critically and we read for pleasure, and we think both are needed in this complex world.

How does it work?

  • We focus on different texts every meeting. Many will be female focused and feminist in nature. The title will be selected by the Director of Sorcery, and coordinated with other chapters of JKR’s Barmy Book Army.

  • We aim to meet every 5-6 weeks, which allows enough time for everyone to finish the selected book.

  • We let all approved members know in advance the date, time and location for each meeting.

Dame Jean Iris Murdoch (1919-1999)

Irish-born British writer, university lecturer and prolific and highly professional novelist, Iris Murdoch dealt with everyday ethical or moral issues, sometimes in the light of myths.
